HEARTBEAT INT. DANCING WITH THE STARS TAMPA BAY 11/08 photos by Melissa Wolcott Martino : In support of their global efforts to provide free cardiac pacemakers to needy patients, HEARTBEAT INTERNATIONAL held a fabulous fund raiser, Nov. 6, 2008, at the Renaissance Vinoy in St. Petersburg. Some wonderful and unique items were auctioned off, including a bass signed by Paul McCartney, a guitar signed by the Rolling Stones, a signed robe and glove from Mohammed Ali, and some great trips and jewelry. The event showcased DANCING WITH THE STARS - Tampa Bay style, with 8 local celebrities competing for bragging rights as Best Dancer, while helping a very worthy cause. Participating in the dance competition were: DR. WILLIAM LaTORRE, GAYLE GUYARDO, J. PAUL PEPIN, JAYNE CARUSSO, NANCY ALEXANDER, JULIE WEINTRAUB, KATHRYN GARCIA, LAURA KLOSTERMAN, and IAN BECKLES, dancing with professionals from the FRED ASTAIRE STUDIOS OF TAMPA BAY. The stars were all dressed by DESIGNS TO SHINE, the world renowned ballroom clothing designers, located in St. Petersburg. Please enjoy this video and photos of the event. Criss Angel Escapes Hotel Implosion 07/08 : Criss Angel escaped from the imploding Spyglass Hotel on Clearwater Beach on July 30, 2008. Things didn't go as planned (or did they?!) for the illusionist. He was supposed to escape by helicopter from the top of the roof, but alas, he didn't make it in time. However, he miraculously appeared out of the rubble after the dust had cleared. It makes for good TV, anyway. The show was broadcast live on A&E, where he has a regular TV show called Mindfreak. Whether or not you considered this particular one a cheesy stunt, he is still a great illusionist. Enjoy this little film (1st pic) and photos on the event.

Tampa Bay WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL 05/17/08 photos by Melissa Wolcott Martino : On Saturday, May 17th, attendees at the Tampa Bay Wine & Food Festival's "Unleash Your Palate" had the chance to savor the fruits of some of the world's most accomplished winemakers, and experience the wizardry of the Tampa Bay area's chef talent pool on the beach behind the St. Petersburg's Don Cesar Resort. The money raised goes to the Abilities Foundation, which helps Floridians with disabilities to obtain jobs and affordable housing. Here is a little photographic "taste of" this wonderful annual event. Enjoy!

BYRD ALZHEIMER'S INSTITUTE GALA 02/08 Photos by Melissa Wolcott Martino : The Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr. Alzheimer’s Center & Research Institute’s inaugural Roses in Winter gala was held at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. The event celebrated family memories and hope for Alzheimer’s disease prevention and cure with the theme “Celebrating Memories & Hope.” Guest speaker was Phyllis George—former Miss America 1971 and recipient of the Rita Hayworth Alzheimer’s Award. Ms. George shared uplifting stories and lessons gleaned from her remarkable life—family memories once celebrated with her mother who was lost to Alzheimer's disease.
